Simon Stevinus, also known as Simon Stevin, was a Dutch mathematician and engineer who made many contributions to hydrostatics. He disproved, before Galileo, Aristotle's theory that heavy bodies fall more swiftly than lighter ones, introduced the decimal system into popular use, and was the first to use the triangle of forces in mechanics.
