Telford, Thomas (1757–1834)



Thomas Telford
Scottish civil engineer responsible for many British roads, harbors, canals, and bridges. He is best known for his suspension bridge over the Menai Straits, North Wales (1819–26); the construction of the Caledonian Canal, Scotland (1804–22); the Göta Canal, Sweden (1808–10), and many Scottish canals.
