Telford, Thomas (1757–1834)
Scottish civil engineer responsible for many British roads, harbors, canals,
and bridges. He is best known for his suspension bridge
over the Menai Straits, North Wales (1819–26); the construction of
the Caledonian Canal, Scotland (1804–22); the Göta Canal, Sweden
(1808–10), and many Scottish canals. Related category
