Ussher, James (1581–1656)Irish clergyman, born in Fishamble Street, Dublin, who studied at Trinity College, Dublin, and later became a fellow there. He entered the Church and eventually became Archbishop of Armagh. In 1650 he published his famous assertion that the Creation had taken place "upon the entrance of the night preceding" Sunday, October 23, 4004 BC.
