vibration

Periodic motion, such as that of a swinging pendulum or a struck tuning fork. The simplest and most regular type of vibration is simple harmonic motion. Energy from a vibration is propagated as a wave motion. Excess mechanical vibration, as with noise pollution or an earthquake, can do considerable damage to buildings.
