plant cell wall structure

Plant cell wall structure.

The cell wall is the rigid, outermost covering of the cells of plants, bacteria, and some protists. It is formed of cellulose fibers embedded in a polysaccharide-protein matrix.

The primary cell wall is thin and flexible, whereas the secondary cell wall is stronger and more rigid and the primary constituent of wood. The cell wall surrounds the cell membrane.
