The cricothyroid joint is the articulation between the inferior horn of the thyroid cartilage and the side of the cricoid cartilage. It is a synovial joint, and has therefore a capsular ligament lined with synovial membrane. The movements which take place are: (1) gliding in various directions; and (2) rotatory movement around a transverse axis which passes through the centers of the right and left joints.
