Ep galaxy

In Morgan's classification (see galaxy classification), an elliptical galaxy that shows some peculiarity in appearance. This might involve patches or lanes of dust, some hot, young stars, high-energy phenomena associated with the nucleus, or an untypical fall-off in luminosity with distance from the center. Among the best-known Ep galaxies are M87, which has a prominent jet, and M32, a satellite of the Andromeda Galaxy that appears to have been denuded of its outer regions by its massive neighbor.
