forebrain

The forebrain is the furthest forward of the three divisions of the brain of a vertebrate embryo, the other two being the hindbrain and midbrain. The forebrain, or prosencephalon as it is also known, develops in the adult to form the following components:

 

  • cerebrum (cerebral cortex + basal ganglia)
  • hypothalamus
  • thalamus
