Edward Morley

Edward Morley was an American scientist who worked on the relative densities of oxygen and hydrogen, but is best known for his role in the Michelson-Morley experiment. This experiment, carried out with Albert Michelson, demonstrated the absence of a hypothetical substance called the "ether", which had been supposed to pervade the Universe and carry light waves.
