John Newlands

John Newlands was a British chemist. In 1864 Newlands announced his law of octaves, which arranged the chemical elements in a table of eight columns according to increasing relative atomic mass. The law was ridiculed until Dmitri Mendeleyev incorporated it in his own periodic table five years later.
