Robert Woodward was an American chemist who synthesized quinine (1944), cholesterol (1951), cortisone (1951), strychnine (1954), LSD (1954), reserpine (1956), chlorophyll (1960), and vitamin B₁₂ (1971). He received the 1965 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his many organic syntheses.
